Welcome to DR WILLIAM BOOTHE WEBSITE!
Some studies suggest that repeated exposure to UV radiation can contribute to development of this eye disease. Macular degeneration is an eye disorder, which causes damage to the central part of the retina, called the macula. It is the major cause of irreversible vision loss in caucasians 50 yrs and older in the United States.
We wear helmets to protect our heads and pads and braces to protect our bones and joints, so why not take the extra step to protect our eyes? We take extra steps to prevent concussions, broken bones, bruises and chipped teeth, but what do we do to prevent the possibility of permanent vision loss, a scratched cornea or fractured eye socket?
Broken bones and bruises will heal, but a serious eye injury can put you on the disabled list from your favorite sport for the rest of your life.
Laser protection eyewear is used to protect eyes from damage from visible and invisible wavelengths of laser light. They can be similar to goggles or be lenses incorporated into other pieces of protective eyewear. Intrabeam viewing of lasers usually requires a low power laser even with protective goggles. Laser protection goggles work on the basis that laser light is one frequency, making it easy to filter out. Laser goggles are subject to degradation and damage like any other kind of eyewear.
